The annual rally at the Solway Coast in Scotland, brings together the National, Scottish and Irish Junior 1000 rally championships for the first time in the 2017 season this weekend. A huge field of 24 junior drivers head to this unique event all hoping for a good finish in what is a very challenging rally.
Top seed Ewan Tindall, who leads both the National and Scottish championships will be looking for his 5th successive win of the National championship and all but clinch the title with 4 rounds remaining. Ewan and co-driver Paul Hudson finished 3rd last year, so have the pedigree to compete. However, Tom Llewellin, Tom Rawlings and rookie Elliott Payne will be more determined than ever to stop Ewan’s run and take their first Junior win.
Experience of the tough stages could prove to be vital and James Hall, George Sheard, Eddie Lewis, Riley Banks and Lwi Price Edwards have all finished this rally in the past and will set off with a good understanding of where to push and where to hold back.
Riley Banks took the covers off his freshly built Peugeot 107 at a test last week as he returns from the summer break in a machine he hopes will give him more pace.
Elliot Payne remains favorite for the Rookie Cup after his very impressive start to the season. While Rob Wilson will be looking to take his 4th Lewis Reporting Pre ’03 Trophy win of the season in his trusty Micra, although Steven Jones took part in the Solway Coast rally last year, so has greater experience of the stages.
