F1000 Rally Club

The 2018 Junior season got underway yesterday with the SMC Stages at Anglesey. An excellent turnout of thirteen starters were all geared up for the season opener. We had new cars and new drivers ready to tackle the stages at the popular and unusually dry Welsh venue.
The crews were headed off by last years front runners of Elliot Payne and Rob Wilson, Rob having swapped cars from the Micra to the Citroen C1 for this years challenge. Riley Bank returned for anther season in the unmisable green machine and Eddie Lewis and Sam Bilham had elected to use the Fiesta for the event. Adam Dalton was driving a very smart new Peugeot 107 and Ioan Lloyd returns in the C1.
Max Hughes would certainly be making his mark again and Billy Grew in the VW Up and James Hardy in the immaculate Micra made up a very varied field of cars. Rob Cotton had the interest of the service area with his brand new Toyota IQ, the tiny car looking superb and only finished the day before the event, it was going to be a steady start as the car hadn't been driven before the event. Steven Jones and Chris Brierley were back in the C1 and the championship was very pleased to welcome Cian Hughes to his first event, always a big day when its your first event. Sadly Archie Swinscoe was a non starter after technical problems on Sat evening forced him to withdraw.
The day got off to a great start with Elliot and Rob Wilson topping the times, sadly we lost Eddie Lewis on the first stage with gearbox issues, Steven Jones and Riley Banks were pushing hard from Adam Dalton still learning his new car. Ioan Lloyd and Jonathon Jackson were pushing hard as well but their day was to end after clipping a tyre and damaging the suspension, they did get back out but sadly it took them out of the running. As expected Max Hughes was in the mix and driving well in still his rookie season. Cian Hughes was very impressive on his first ever event but driving with a good pace from the first timer and learning the car. Billy Grew and James Hardy were again two of our newer drivers getting to know there cars and gain experience on the stages, very impressive drives from our newest members. The pace was hotting up at the front and places were changing all the time Elliot and Rob were battling for first with Riley, Max, Steven and Adam mixing it up behind as the crews tackled the dry Anglesey stages.
AS usual the standard of driving throughout the field was superb and as organisers were are always so proud of the mature way which these youngsters perform. Sadly Ioan Lloyd continued with driveshaft problems and eventually was forced to retire. We were also to loose Riley Banks from what would have been a great result for him.
So after eight stages Rob Wilson would take the honours from Elliot Payne and Steven Jones in third place. Adam Dalton took his best ever result in fourth with an impressive drive in the new car. Max Hughes, Rob Cotton and Billy Grew followed home after some great driving. James Hardy took the pre 03 honours from Cian Hughes both these rookies driving superbly in their first events.
